Recently I was talking to a friend about my porn issues.  Not typical porn problems, but rather the task of disposing of the stacks of adult magazines that come in my mail.  I subscribe to a few, just for the articles, of course.  Most of them arrive for free though, in the form of trade magazines and promotional materials.  It’s part of my job to flip through and take note of breaking news, political trends, health blurbs, and featured products coming on the market.  I’m particularly fond of getting advanced notice of creative sex toys before they hit the public!

I am less fond of the notion that someone at the business center that used to host my mailbox may have been taking home my magazines with darkened wrapping.  Had s/he just asked, I would have gladly handed them over for free, once I was done with them!  After all, it can be a bit of hassle figuring out how to recycle printed porn.

Having a home office has many benefits, like allowing me to cut office rental from my budget and shift from a set rate to a sliding scale for my phone and Skype-based coaching clients. However, there are a few special challenges.  For example, my recycling goes out to the curb with my trash.  When I lived in Georgia, that meant putting out a narrow bin pull of papers that neighborhood kids could easily peep or dig into.  It was common to see bits of newspaper or food wrappers blowing about on recycling day.  Private documents get shredded and bagged, but what about stacks of promo mags?  Although I’m entertained by the idea of watching the latest Butt Bonanza XXX promo sheet flutter down the street on a gusty day, it’s not so good in reality.

Thankfully, the county had large recycling bins just up the road, so I could wrap those materials in old paper bags and leave them there.  These days I either give them to curious friends,  use the pages for wrapping gifts, or leave them well-swaddled in a large, covered big bin by the street.  Hiding porn for recycling: just another little detail that makes my job special!
