Woohoo! My conversation with the amazing, adorable, and super intelligent Dr. Dick is now up on podcast for your listening enjoyment. And if you listen closely you’ll hear about a give-away in honor of the podcast. Just shout out any tweet you like, as long as it includes @DrRuthie and @DrDickSexAdvce so we can both see it, and you’ll be entered to win a free 1 hour session with me! Don’t have twitter? You can also enter by responding to this blog entry with your favorite part of the podcast! Yay!
No no, it’s not a new season of your favorite trashy “reality” show. It’s the time of snow in the north, mild temps in the south, and love all around! Even Santas can’t resist the urge to share a little pleasure, and you know the guy next to them is actually smiling deep inside his cold heart.
If you’re in the USA, Canada or UK and alone this week, I’d like to give you a quick call to wish you all the best for the holidays and new year. Email me your name (nickname is fine), start/province/country, phone number, and the holiday you celebrate, and I’ll give you a call this week sometime between 9-5 in your time zone. ExploringIntimacy (at) gmail (dot) com will get it to me. Please don’t leave your private info here on the blog.
Thanks to all of you for making this blog such a fun project for the past year. I look forward to a new year with many new posts, and to continuing to meet some of you as I travel and do workshops.
Lastly, as many of you know, I’m working to wrap up my dissertation and am in need a few more people who are interested in being interviewed for a special project. If you or someone you know lives in the south-east USA, fits the criteria below, and may want to leave more about an interview, please email me at the same address (exploringintimacy (at) gmail (dot) com) for more information. My goal is to complete my interviews by early January. I’m also doing Interviews in south/central Michigan until the end of the month.
Are you in a nonabusive, nonviolent relationship now, after leaving a physically or emotionally violent or abusive relationship in the past?
I’m Ruth Neustifter, a doctoral candidate at the University of Georgia. I have worked with survivors of domestic violence for years, and am now doing a research project in this area. I’m interested in how survivors of intimate partner violence (physical, verbal and emotional) make the transition out of the violent relationship, and into new relationships with a nonviolent partner. My research project explores positive things about these survivors, and how they create and maintain their new, nonviolent relationships. This study involves brief questionnaires, followed by interviews with these survivors. If you would like to learn more about this study, or to find out if you qualify to participate, leave a message for me with your name and phone number. You may also visit www.survivorcouples.com for more information. Please pass this information on to anyone you know who may be interested in participating!
Pax et Amor!
Yes, I’m still alive! The main website has been touched up a bit and I’m pleased to announce the fall and winter Flirty Fridays schedule for Aphrodite’s Toybox of Atlanta. Grab your date book and give ’em a call. Although reservations are no longer required, they are suggested in order make sure you have a spot. I’ll see you there!
If you would like to meet over tea to talk about sex positive goodness, and you’re in Milwaukee, Madison, or New Orleans this month, then drop me a line. More after the jump.
This week Cory Silverberg, a favorite sex expert of mine, is ready to help you shop for the right sex workshop, the right sex store, and the right sex expert. The man has you covered to get uncovered! Since I’m promoting my own workshop, Romance & Finance, I figured I should link to those good tips for those of you aren’t in the Atlanta area and need to find your own local experts. Visit with me at Aphrodite’s Toybox if you can, and if you can’t, check out his suggestions.
And seriously, I do encourage you to be picky consumers of your sex information. There are no requirements out there for training or regulations for quality, so you have both the right and duty to ask what training, credentials and references your sexpert carries. You may also wish to ask what they can offer (if anything) regarding any special needs or requirements you have, from knowledge of specific physical limitations to their level of conservative or liberal-ness. Although my desire to offer positive sexuality information was the main motivator, I also began this blog to help potential workshop attendees get to know me a bit better.
As for my credentials, I review them at my main site but I can also sum them up here by letting you know that I’m on the final stages of accreditation as Sexuality Educator by AASECT, and also on the final year of my PhD in family studies. I’ve received special training in working with domestic violence survivors, LGBT individuals and families, couples and several other areas. Plus, I’ve presented at international professional conferences on my work and have a growing list of regional and national awards for my areas of study and service. Oh yeah, and I’ve been published in academic journals. If you’re that curious I can share my CV with you. ;)
And to address my level of conservativeness… well… you’ve got my blog so you can draw your own conclusions based on what you’re seeking. You’re also welcome to click “communicate” up above and drop me a line!
