Too often, our society tends to ignore the sexuality of pregnant women.  For some reason, we all seem to want to pretend that sexy, sensual ladies will suddenly stop craving physical intimacy for nine months!  But for those of us who know that being pregnant doesn’t stop the sex drive (it may even enhance it!), Your Orgasmic Pregnancy provides an entertaining and educational guide to having great sex even with a bun in the oven.

Your Orgasmic Pregnancy is an upbeat and engaging read

At about 175 pages paperback, Your Orgasmic Pregnancy isn’t an intimidating medical volume that is set on giving you all the technical details of childbirth.  Instead, this engaging and quick-reading book gives a great relational look at how pregnancy and childbirth can affect the sex drive and ways to best enjoy the sensuality of a pregnant partner.

Your Orgasmic Pregnancy gives a good look at what aspects of pregnancy can be sensual.  It gives the low-down on each trimester and its effects on the body in casual, easy language, and also includes a section on sex after pregnancy.  Helpful sidebars help the pregnant partner understand what their long-term partner may be feeling during the pregnancy, and likewise other subsections directed at the non-pregnant partner give advice on what can be done to help the pregnant partner emotionally, mentally, and physically.

While the book has a nice relational focus, a good portion of it will also be helpful for pregnant ladies who are single or in (a) casual relationship(s).  Additionally, Your Orgasmic Pregnancy gets a huge thumbs-up from me for embracing a variety of sexualities and forms of sexual expression.  The language doesn’t assume a particular gender for the pregnant lady’s partner, and illustrations and examples throughout the guide portray both same and opposite-sex partnerships.

Overall, Your Orgasmic Pregnancy is a highly recommendable read for pregnant women and their partners.  It’s short, easy to absorb, and has lots of good advice for lovin’ all throughout the pregnancy, as well as afterward!

I must admit that I’m rather fond of reading dirty stories on the metro (the DC subway).  It feels a bit like a guerrilla protest against patriarchal norms of female sexuality.  It’s probably more along the lines of trashy, but it’s fun anyway. Not only did Best of the Best Women’s Erotica 2 give me the opportunity to wiggle eyebrows with strangers, but I definitely found a few favorite stories while I was at it.

Violet Blue's erotica compilation is female-centric and has something for everyone

Best of the Best Women’s Erotica, edited by Violet Blue (who has appeared on Oprah), contains 225 pages, 21 different stories from different authors, plus a short introduction story, which is also hot.

Erotica anthologies are a wonderful way to discover what turns you on or what you didn’t even know you liked before. When partners read the book together, each can highlight the words and passages that particularly appeal. Then, by trading the book back and forth, learn what to include in lovemaking for that special stimulation.

Filled with numerous themes, varying characters, and unique settings, Best of the Best Women’s Erotica 2 runs the gamut to ensure hitting something that appeals to you. The focus of the more delicate, highly detailed erotica is definitely  female pleasure, a distinct difference from the usual,  male-oriented reading found on the Internet; such female-centric writing, however, is enjoyable to both genders, and our male reviewers found the stories just as enjoyable.  Passages also contain interesting, erotic looks at a little bit of mental struggle in male characters, as well as some strong and dominant female characters, which is difficult to find in books, particularly erotica.

Best of Best Women’s Erotica 2 is captivating and a great read: highly recommended. This fun and sexy collection of short erotica by and for women is sure to give you some sassy ideas and hours of pleasure.

It’s May 16th and that means it’s my turn to host the blog book tour for Please, Sir right here at my blog!  In this case, you can most certainly judge a book by its cover.  And thank goodness, because that is one sexy cover.  Yes, Sir contains 22 lusciously kinky short stories of strong, sexy, sassy women who totally get off on submitting to the strong, dominant men in their lives who love to pleasure them.  Sometimes it’s a one night stand.  Sometimes it’s a long term relationship.  Yes, there are a few dungeons, but the stories in this book go way beyond that in creativity.  I was delightfully surprised by the range and diversity of these stories, as well as the form.  Each is relatively short, beginning with enough background to give a bit of connection to main characters, progressing to intense moments of pleasure (including lots of orgasms and kink), and ending in a prompt yet satisfying wrap-up.

True, there are a few stories that I liked less than the rest, but that’s bound to happen in any compilation since you just can’t please everyone all of the time.  Of course, as an educator I would have also liked the editor to have skipped any stories in which spit passes for vulvic lube and spit or her vulvic juices pass for anal lube. Please, can we retire that convention?  I make a lot of money on it as an educator from folks who struggle to try and make that work, but I would gladly give up that income for a better informed public that doesn’t suffer from so much chafing.  But I was thrilled that some of them included lube, and even the sexy use of condoms!  And in the end, it’s a fantasy book not meant for education, right?

This was an enjoyable compilation and I look forward to seeing what else I can dive into from her collections.  I see from Amazon that the editor is coming out with a book featuring submissive men and dominant women soon, so you can bet I’ll be the first in line for that one!

And don’t forget to Enter this month’s contest for a surprise premium toy set (it’s a really exciting one) AND a free full session in my online office!

Guide to Getting It On! Guide to Getting It On! by Paul Joannides

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Guide to Getting It On is one of the very few how-to guides that I recommend to others. This book covers a wide variety of topics from basic anatomy to advanced sexual skills for new parents and/or disabled lovers! I know several instructors who use this thick book for their classes, but don’t let that give you the impression that it isn’t an interesting read. It’s engaging with a wonderful emphasis on the role of emotions and intimacy, whether play is solo or partnered. This edition offers additional information for men’s anal play and same sex relationships, which is an excellent improvement over past offerings. As an added bonus, the author is a great guy with a caring personality and a great deal of expertise. Whether you’re looking to enhance your own knowledge, want a gift for a coming of age young adult, or are seeking a great gift for a friend, this is a fantastic and reasonably priced find.

The Essence of Tantric Sexuality

The Essence of Tantric Sexuality

The Essence of Tantric Sexuality

By: Mark A. Michaels & Patricia Johnson

Cost: $17.95 (paperback)

AASECT‘s annual conference is a wonderful place for those interested in meeting and speaking with internationally-known experts in various areas of human sexuality.  I met Mark Michaels and Patricia Johnson, authors of The Essence of Tantric Sexuality (among other books and DVDs) at AASECT’s vending area this year, where they offered me a copy of The Essence of Tantric Sexuality to review here on The Explorers Blog.  This is one of those books that leaves you feeling far more intelligent for having read it, yet also gets the reader thinking some rather steamy thoughts.  What a great combination!

Well, I don’t know know about you, but when I’m confined to my room with all nature of unpleasant symptoms due to an encounter with tainted cheese dip I catch up on my reading! Yes, I got exactly what I deserved for eating cheese in Georgia when I was just a few hours away from lactose utopia. I actually read this on the plane to and from the wonderful 99th annual AAFCS conference, held in the land of delightfully untainted dairy: Wisconsin. Enough dairy, enough travel! I will tell you what I learned about orgasms from this dense yet readable and oh-so-worthwhile history of woman’s best friend!
