Lovers of butt-play should definitely consider getting their hands (and butts!) on this glass buttplug from the Icicles line.  It’s a beautiful intermediate toy with a lot of great features, and a really satisfying heavy feel.   Plus, it’s a great conversation starter when guests find your glass buttplug in the dishwasher!

This hefty glass plug from the Icicles line is an excellent intermediate anal toy

This glass anal plug isn’t the first toy from the Icicles line I’ve reviewed here at Exploring Intimacy; previously, the Octopussy Dildo wowed me with its inventive and well-made design.

The Icicles plug is a moderate-sized anal toy, at 5.5″ long and 1.75″ thick at its widest.  It’s the perfect size for people who are looking to step up from their beginner’s toys, but too big for anal novices.  It’s made from Pyrex, which is non-porous and so sterilizable; it can be boiled or even put in the dishwasher to be cleaned.  Like most glass toys, the Icicles plug is super-smooth, and quite slick when lubed.  And, of course, it’s quite pretty!

Its glass nature makes the Icicles plug a bit weighty, giving it a nice heft and substantial feel when inserted.  The finger-loop on the end makes it easy to handle, even when your hand is slick with lube.  It has a nice curved shape that makes it excellent for prostate stimulation on guys.  Some women may also  find it gives good G-spot stimulation, even when inserted anally. And, as with all glass toys, the fact that glass holds temperatures well makes for interesting play possibilities, as immersing the toy in hot or cold water can give an interesting extra sensation to its insertion.

Like all glass toys, care must be taken to ensure that this plug stays fully intact.  Pyrex is a very sturdy material, but if it does happen to get a chip or crack, it needs to be disposed of immediately.  If you’re washing it by hand in a sink, make sure to lay down a hand towel at the bottom of the sink to keep the toy from chipping if you drop it.

Again, this is an excellent intermediate-level anal toy, and isn’t recommended for beginners due to its larger size and heft.  In addition, folks who are particularly shy about their anus may feel a little self-conscious about this plug, since it’s a see-through glass.  This embarrassment is largely misplaced, though, since the curved shape of the toy means that you can’t really use it to see inside the anus; at most, you’ll see some skin tone.

Overall, the Icicles glass plug is an excellent glass anal toy for those who have used anal toys before and are looking for something a little classier with some nice size and weight to it.

The Tantus B-Bomb is a moderate but filling anal plug with a removable vibrating bullet.  Its strong vibrations make it an enjoyable toy, and its moderate size with slim tapering make it easy to use but substantial enough that experienced anal aficionados will still find it fun.

B-Bomb Plug is sleek and filling

Don’t let the name scare you: Tantus’s B-Bomb is only a moderate size, with its tapered tip and smooth, high-quality silicone mean that it’s here for your pleasure.  This sleek anal plug comes with a removable vibrating bullet, which means the toy has lost some of its buzz, it should be easy to replace the batteries (which are watch-sized) or the bullet itself.  The B-Bomb packs a nice, solid rumble, making it pleasurable to use.  The slim point of a tip makes it easy to warm yourself up with the toy instead of your fingers, and turning on the vibrations can help your body relax into the sensation.  The B-Bomb is average-sized or slightly above, and would be very filling for most people; if you have a vagina in addition to your anus, a partner penetrating you vaginally while you are using the B-Bomb would certainly be able to feel its vibrations, as well.

The B-Bomb may be a bit too large for newbies to anal play, or for those who aren’t feeling warmed up during a particular session.  That said, however, the nice tapering of its tip means that a beginner could use the toy to warm up by only playing with a short length of it, rather than trying to fit the whole toy in at once.  Of course, since it’s a plug, the B-Bomb isn’t meant for heavy thrusting sort of play; instead, it should be inserted and left in while the user engages in other sexy times (or something completely unrelated, if that’s your thing!).

Overall, the B-Bomb is a high-quality silicone anal plug that should be filling and enjoyable for most users.  Its slim tapering makes it easy to insert and warm up with, and its strong vibrations make it a pleasurable toy to leave in during sexy play.

She slid next me after a recent workshop, voice hushed and cheeks slightly pink.  “So what am I going to buy for my boyfriend?  I need help finding a Christmas gift for him.  He likes anal stuff, but… ”  She went on to explain that her lover had discovered the joys of anal stimulation, and she was hoping to find a way to support him without having to be too involved “back there.”  At the same time, she wanted to be romantic and sensual about it.  It’s a question I hear more often than she might expect.  It’s typically whispered in the last few minutes before I pack up after a workshop, or right before the end of a coaching session.  That’s when the juiciest topics raise to the surface, after all.  I love diving into all of those topics during a series of coaching sessions, but post-workshop is the time for quick suggestions.

Perhaps you or a friend are facing the same dilemma.  Maybe your worries are about cleanliness, concerns about what it might mean when a guy (or anyone) discovers the joys of anal stimulation, or you’re just not a fan of butt lovin’.  Although all of these topics are worthy of far more discussion than possible in a brief conversation, all of them certainly deserve to be addressed.

I am impressed by any person who approaches with this question.  It takes a lot of love and dedication to decide to find enjoyable ways to incorporate something we’re not yet fond of  in order to support our partners.  Not only is she dedicated to her partner’s exploration, but she is equally aware of her own comfort and the need to balance her feelings with his desires.  What a wonderful combination!

What did she settle on?

First I pointed out the difference between thrusting toys (like dildos, and some vibes) and toys that generally go in and stay in, such as butt plugs.  A plug sounded like a good idea to her.  After all, he can lube and insert a gorgeous, romantic butt plug himself or she can even lube it and hand it to him, if she likes.  He can wear it during their regular romantic play, and enjoy the sensations of shifting and tensing his muscles around it as moves.  If she wants to do a little more without getting too close, she can hold a vibrator against the base of the plug or even rock it back and forth inside him by pressing on the edges of the base (butt toys must have a flared base).  These acts can give him lovely anal and prostate pleasure, allowing a little attention to go a long way.

She ultimately chose a smaller metal butt plug by Njoy, like the one pictured above. Not only it is a lovely item that comes in classy packaging, but metal toys have a seductive weight and smoothness to them (plus they’re easy to clean).  Those that are familiar with Njoy products know she made a good choice!

Many thanks to the caring, thoughtful workshop attendee with the excellent question.  I hope the two of you enjoy your gift together for many years!
