Most of the time, I prepare for conferences by nerding up with lots of articles, picking up a fresh notebook and a few good pens (anyone want to contribute an ipad to my cause?), readying my digital slides and packing layers for those ever-frigid presentation rooms.  It’s a different story when I’m off to a sex-positive event like Floating World!  Suitcases are fewer, presentation outfits are much more creative, comfy shoes or no shoes are the rule, and at least one piece of luggage is usually dedicated to fun freebies like these!  FunWares has generously sent me this gorgeous box of seductive tingly lip glosses, stimulating Tenga Egg toys, and delightful flavored dental dams.  Yay!  And you guessed it: I’m the lucky educator who gets to share all of these goodies with workshop attendees.  The condoms were a purchase I made – 100 unlubricated condoms for teaching safer oral sex skills, and for folks who want to avoid the silicone lube that typically comes with lubed condoms.  If you’re not yet in the know, that dab of silicone lube can put unwelcome wear on beloved silicone dildos and prosthetics.

Yep, Floating World is not your typical educational event, or at least not the ones I cut my teeth on as a grad student with a CV to build.  At events such as these, the days and evenings are filled with some of the most breath-taking, entertaining and applicable sex ed from some of the finest fellow educators in the world.  And the nights?  They’re educational and entertaining in… other ways. And the outfits get even better!

Many thanks to FunWares for helping me spice up my presentations at FloatingWorld.  Will I be seeing you there this year?

This morning I woke up to a thunder storm with rain so heavy I thought it must be ice.  By lunch, the sun was bright and the birds were singing.  This is the time of year to when nature shows its power and comes into bloom – and she has the same effect on our relationships!  There’s no better time to join a workshop, mentorship group, or call-in and start enjoying the healthy joy and renewal of spring in your relationships.  I hope to see you soon!

However, to help us get a strong start, I’m currently offering $25 off the first 4 months for those who register in time for February’s monthly group call!  Read more about the group, then give me a call to learn how you can join.

Certified Orgasmic Tele-Group
The Certified Orgasmic group is a special women-only community dedicated to finding your orgasms and enjoying them with ease and pleasure, both by yourself and with partners.  This group meets twice monthly and also includes monthly private calls with Dr. Ruthie to focus on your personal progress points.  This is a closed four-month program, meaning that each group is small and new members are not admitted once a group begins.  Group calls are held over the lunch hour and are also recorded so members may listen and participate at any time.  The next group is scheduled to begin in April, but those who register and pay in full by 2/28 will receive two free private sessions to thank you for your early registration.  Contact me directly to learn more about this group and inquire about registration.

Recently I was inspired to update my workshop agreement, a contract which outlines the responsibilities of myself (as the presenter/facilitator) and the folks who are hosting my workshops.  This was the perfect opportunity to add clauses into my contract regarding accessibility for attendees who are disabled, nursing, and of diverse genders and sexualities.  For those of you who have similar contracts, I encourage you to consider adding sections related to these needs as well:

  • Handicapped accessible locations, parking and restrooms
  • Reasonable heating/cooling control
  • Availability of non-alcoholic drinks, especially if alcohol is sold or provided
  • Open breast feeding policy, or dedicated space for breast feeding
  • Sturdy chairs, some without arms and some with (for differing accessibility needs)
  • Expectation that all genders and sexualities be welcome at all events
  • Vending allowances which exclude toxic or body-unfriendly products

Sometimes it isn’t possible or desirable to meet all of these requirements.  For example, I may be hosted by an organization on the third floor of an old building with no elevator, or the workshop may be designed specifically for a certain gender.  However, my contract now requires that this be disclosed and agreed upon at the time of booking and that all promotional materials include this information.  That’s right, accessibility is now a contracted default at all of my workshops, instead of a request.  It’s about time!  After all, it is the societal ignorance and bigotry that creates accessibility problems for those with disabilities, not the disability itself.  Please consider joining me raising your requirements to meet these appropriate and oft neglected points.

Got suggestions for something I forgot or overlooked that can be readily addressed in a general contract like mine?  Let me know!
